The ship is quietly introducing fees for one of Disney Cruise Line’s most beloved perks
Just a heads-up, starting next week, you might see a new charge on your room charges when you’re on the Disney Adventure, a $5 service charge. Guests who are already on board are saying they’re seeing this charge applied to their room service orders, and it seems to be linked to ordering a lot. We’re still waiting for official word from Disney Cruise Line, but the reports from those on the ship are pretty consistent, so it’s something to keep an eye on.
There are a couple of exceptions to the rule: door hanger breakfast orders and orders from guests with concierge-level access will be free. Otherwise, it looks like the charge will apply to most room service orders.
A First for Disney Cruise Line
This marks the first time any Disney Cruise Line ship has charged guests for room service, full stop. For years, complimentary room service has been a signature perk of sailing with Disney. The kind of thing that regulars rave about and first-timers quickly fall in love with. It set Disney apart in an industry where nickel-and-diming has become increasingly common.
That distinction may now be narrowing, at least on the Adventure.
Growing Pains on a New Ship
The Disney Adventure is brand new, and new ships bring new hurdles. The crew has been finding it tough to keep up with all the room service orders—it seems like staffing and logistics are the main reasons for this change. Guests have mentioned that the charges might be a way to handle the high volume of orders, and the fee system is designed to both bring in extra money and help keep the order volume down.
What This Means for Guests
Following on the heels of the changes made yesterday to the alcohol policy and door decorations, this policy is a temporary measure while the new ship finds its footing, or a permanent shift in how Disney Cruise Line approaches room service remains to be seen. But for a brand known for its all-inclusive feel, it’s a change worth watching closely.
