Update to Pre Cruise Covid Testing

Posted on July 13, 2022July 13, 2022 by Tracy

Disney Cruise Lines has updated the testing requirements for ships sailing to and from European ports. Starting July 30, 2022, all guests will be required to take a COVID-19 test at the terminal before boarding on embarkation day.

Fully vaccinated Guests on sailings departing European ports on or after July 30, 2022, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken no more than 1-2 days before setting sail to be exempt from embarkation testing at the terminal. At the guest’s expense. Guests who do not upload a test before embarkation day will be tested at the port. Guests will be $74 USD (£60 GBP or 550kr DKK) for the initial antigen test, and, if needed, $125 USD (£105 GBP or 927kr DKK) for a confirmatory PCR test, charged at the time of service.

This change follows changes made to testing for cruises leaving North American ports.

Requirements for Cruise Passengers Visiting Europe

Guests on sailings departing from and arriving at homeports in Europe—including Barcelona, Spain; Civitavecchia, Italy; Dover, England; and Copenhagen, Denmark—are required to adhere to the following COVID-19 vaccination and testing protocols.

COVID-19 Vaccination
Disney Cruise Line requires all vaccine-eligible Guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of sailing (based on US eligibility requirements), as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). This is a requirement for all guests ages 5 and older.

In consideration of guidance from the CDC and WHO, Disney Cruise Line accepts the following vaccine types: Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Novavax, Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (VeroCell), Sinovac-CoronaVac and Covavaxin (Bharat Biotech).

The CDC defines fully vaccinated as 14 days after receiving:

  • A single dose of an accepted 1-dose vaccine
  • A second dose of an accepted 2-dose vaccine
  • A full series of an active (not placebo) COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S.-based AstraZeneca or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine trials
  • A second dose of any “mix-and-match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines (administered at least 17 days apart)

See below for additional information about country-specific government entry requirements.

Pre-Trip COVID-19 Testing
For all sailings, Guests who are not vaccine-eligible, because of age, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. Guests 4 years of age and under must complete these testing requirements. The test should be a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), a rapid PCR test or a lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted. This will be the first of 2 tests required for Guests ages 4 and under; the second test will be conducted at the terminal prior to embarkation (paid for by Disney Cruise Line).

For sailings departing European ports before July 30, 2022, all Guests (regardless of age and vaccination status) will be required to take a COVID-19 test at the terminal before boarding on embarkation day.

Fully vaccinated Guests on sailings departing European ports on or after July 30, 2022, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken no more than 1-2 days before setting sail to be exempt from embarkation testing at the terminal. Completing pre-trip testing prior to embarkation day enhances the efficiency of boarding and confirms that you are negative for COVID-19 prior to travelling to the terminal. Pre-trip test results must be uploaded into the Sail Screen app available on the Project Screen by Prenetics website by midnight prior to embarkation day.

Antigen tests must be completed using a professionally proctored in-person or telehealth service and come with digital results that can be uploaded to the Sail Screen app. A nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) or PCR test is also acceptable. Guests can purchase COVID-19 tests through our third-party vendor, Project Screen by Prenetics for $32 USD (or £30 GBP). Guests may also obtain a test from any independent testing supplier or pharmacy.

Fully vaccinated Guests who do not upload pre-trip test results to the Project Screen by Prenetics website by midnight prior to embarkation day will be tested at the terminal before boarding and will be charged for the cost of the test. The cost of embarkation tests for fully vaccinated Guests will be $74 USD (£60 GBP or 550kr DKK) for the initial antigen test, and, if needed, $125 USD (£105 GBP or 927kr DKK) for a confirmatory PCR test, charged at the time of service.

Guests can also use the Sail Screen by Prenetics website to purchase and schedule a pre-trip test to be performed at a testing location set up near the cruise terminal, one to 3 days before their sail date. Results will be available 24 to 48 hours from the time the sample is received by Prenetics and will be sent to the email address provided during registration on the Prenetics website.
