Deck four after the Muster drill Disney Wonder to New Orleans

Heroic Rescue at Sea: Disney Dream Crew Saves Child and Father in Ocean Emergency

Posted on June 29, 2025June 30, 2025 by Tracy

In what passengers are calling one of the most frightening moments they’ve ever witnessed at sea, the crew of the Disney Dream executed a rescue operation when a young girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her.

The Incident

The emergency unfolded on deck 4 of the Disney Dream when a six-year-old child accidentally went overboard while the ship was in the middle of the ocean. According to passenger reports, the girl had been sitting on the railing when she fell into the water, and her father jumped into the water after her.

Passengers reported hearing the rarely-used “Mr. MOB” (Man Overboard) announcement echo throughout the ship, followed by emergency sirens that brought the gravity of the situation into sharp focus.

The right side shows a map with the ship's current position and track, indicating speed of 10.5 knots at bearing 289.9° as of June 29, 15:31 UTC. Ship particulars show gross tonnage of 129,690, built in 2010, with IMO number 9434254.

Swift Action by Disney Crew

What happened next showcased the training and professionalism of Disney Cruise Line’s crew. According to eyewitness accounts, the entire rescue operation took approximately 15 minutes from start to finish – a remarkably quick response time for such a critical situation.

One passenger shared her experience: “I have never felt so nauseous and have my heart race so fast. First time on a Disney cruises that I have heard the announcement ‘Mr. MOB’. Disney was amazing and so quick. God was for sure watching over them as Disney in no time pulled them from the water and both are safe.”

Another witness, who was reading nearby when the incident occurred, described the scene as “definitely one of the scariest moments I have ever witnessed” but praised the captain and crew who “acted efficiently and quickly and saved their lives.”

A Testament to Training and Preparedness

This incident highlights the critical importance of maritime safety protocols and crew training. Man overboard situations are among the most serious emergencies that can occur at sea, requiring immediate, coordinated response from multiple departments.

The Disney Dream’s crew demonstrated prompt emergency response, quickly locating the passengers in the water and executing a successful rescue despite challenging open-ocean conditions.

Passenger Response

The incident affected fellow passengers, many of whom offered support to the family during the frightening ordeal.

Passengers expressed gratitude not only for the successful rescue but also for witnessing the professionalism and training of the Disney Cruise Line staff during a critical moment.

Safe and Sound

Most importantly, both the child and her father were successfully rescued from the water and are reported to be safe. The family undoubtedly experienced one of the most terrifying moments of their lives, but thanks to quick thinking, brave crew members, their story has a happy ending.

This rare occurrence serves as a powerful reminder of the incredible skill and dedication of maritime professionals who work tirelessly to keep passengers safe. Our thoughts remain with the family as they recover from this harrowing experience, and our appreciation goes out to the Disney Dream crew who made their rescue possible.
