Updated September 24, 2024
In a thrilling moment, the Disney Treasure departed the shipyard for its eagerly awaited sea trials, marking a significant milestone before its grand arrival in Port Canaveral. The latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet is embarking on an exciting journey that will take it along the Ems River to Eemshaven, Netherlands, before venturing into the North Sea for crucial performance tests.
A Momentous Departure
On September 19, 2024, spectators witnessed a historic event as the Treasure was towed to open water for the first time. Cheering crowds gathered along the river’s shores to mark this significant departure. Over the coming days, the ship will undergo a series of rigorous tests known as sea trials, a critical step in its journey to becoming operational.
The Path to Port Canaveral
Following its sea trials, the Disney Treasure will sail from Eemshaven to Port Canaveral, with a planned stop in Madeira during its 14-day transatlantic cruise. Eemshaven is the homeport for all new vessels constructed at Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. After leaving Papenburg, each ship navigates down the Ems River to Eemshaven, where the sea trials commence to test the vessel’s machinery and systems before final delivery to Disney Cruise Line.
Captain Marco, who is at the helm of the Disney Treasure, will board the ship to oversee the trials and ensure it is fully prepared for its upcoming transatlantic journey.
A Possible Rare Opportunity
Interestingly, the 14-night Westbound Transatlantic Cruise from Eemshaven ending in Port Canaveral is listed on the Disney Cruise Line website; although it’s currently unavailable for booking, there is a view prices link. While it may not become available to the public, it’s noteworthy that it has been published like any other transatlantic cruise, potentially offering a unique opportunity for lucky travellers. I am trying to figure out if I have enough vacation time left in my bank and cash in my bank account, lol!
You can now see the Westbound Transatlantic is sailing in October, but it is still not bookable.
New York City Showcase
The Treasure is scheduled to appear in New York City from November 17 to 20, 2024. It will likely be open for media and travel agency visits. There’s also a strong possibility that Good Morning America will broadcast from the ship, showcasing its features to a national audience.
The Grand Finale
The culmination of this journey will be the Disney Treasure’s eagerly anticipated maiden voyage, set to depart from Port Canaveral, Florida, on December 21, 2024. This inaugural sailing will mark the official start of the ship’s adventures, bringing Disney magic to the high seas for years to come.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Disney Treasure’s progress and potential opportunities to be among the first to experience this magnificent new vessel!
