It is less than fifty days until the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish. Some details about the arrival and christening of the Disney Wish have been released.

Today Disney Cruises’ multi-day celebration to welcome the Disney Wish to the fleet was approved by Port Canaveral Commissioners. Disney Cruises’ first new ship in more than a decade will be arriving on the morning of June 20, 2022. Disney has been granted approval to film the early morning arrival. The Disney Wish will be arriving between 4-7am June 20, 2022.

June 29, 2022 Disney Wish Christening

The ship’s christening on June 29, 2022, is ahead of a planned four-night preview cruise for news media and travel agents. “DCL will conduct on-site installation and event rehearsals from June 16-28. The technical and structural elements that DCL will provide include bleachers, stage, audio towers, light towers, video walls, generators, tents, and special effects.” Disney will be broadcasting the event live.

In the past Disney Christenings have included musical performances and fireworks. Jennifer Hudson performed in 2011 when the Disney Dream debuted, she is the godmother of the Disney Dream. No godmother has been announced yet for Disney Wish.

Trident Class Ships

The ship is the first of three in a new Trident class of ships for Disney, the largest in the fleet coming in at 144,000 gross tons and 1,254 staterooms, compared with the 130,000 gross tons of Disney Dream and Fantasy and the 84,000 gross tons of the line’s two original ships Disney Magic and Wonder. The next two Trident class ships are not due until 2024 and 2025.

Construction on Disney Wish began at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany in 2020, and was floated out on February 11, 2022.

The Wish was original planned Maiden voyage was January 2022, but due to Covid it was pushed out to June 2022. Further delays lead to some cancellations and the Maiden Voyage to be rescheduled for July 14, 2022.
